All this waste, we have to ban it, if we want to save our planet!
As we had no green area in school it was decided to establish some flower beds. Of course, as we have started composting we also needed these flowerbeds to put the compost on, when it eventually rots down. Some of our parents helped out with the building of the flowerbeds.
A big thank you must be given to both Mr. Fergus Dicker and Mr. David Hackett who gave up a lot of their time and did the very heavy work - cutting the tarmac and using a kango hammer when we hit concrete under the tarmac. The builders next door to the school helped out by wheel barrowing all the topsoil from the front yard out into the backyard! Another thank you must be given to Mr. Cusack who put up the brackets for our hanging baskets and also put up the birdcam.
On Saturday 10th March a group of parents came to school to help with the front flowerbeds and on Saturday 21st April we had a huge Green Action Day, where parents, teachers and children came to school and finished off planting beans, sunflowers and bulbs, finished painting jobs that had been started and filled two skips. A huge thank you to everyone who participated. We started at 11am and worked until 4 pm, stopping for lunch which was provided by Ms. Jordan, Ms. Enright and Joanne Vance Cronin.
We were lucky to receive two trees from Sundrive Park.
We moved the rosemary and lavender bushes to beside the compost bins so there'd be a nicer smell and in their place we have a lovely weeping willow tree and some flowers which will hopefully bloom soon.
We have planted beans, sunflowers, a spider plant, a goosefoot plant, some
