All this waste, we have to ban it, if we want to save our planet!
On Monday 12th March it was decided to start our litter survey. Every day for the next 3 weeks the committee members from each class would collect, count, chart and weigh the litter collected around the school. As litter has never been collected from around the school grounds we were expecting quite a lot! The survey should help us to pinpoint where the problem areas around the school are. It should also give us information as to what type of rubbish appears most often and at what times during the school day. Some of the results have been quite interesting! Come back here to view our results and to read up on our innovative ideas as to how we should tackle the litter.

Litter Survey Results
After 3 weeks of hard work our litter wardens have worked hard to make our school look lovely and clean and most importantly litter free. After studying the results we have come up with some interesting findings.
* Most of the litter was found in the front yard
* A lot of lunch was found after break and after lunch.
* The rubbish seems to get wedged in the corners and a lot ends up in the carpark.
* A lot of popcorn after breaks.
* A lot of plastic too.
* An awful lot of rubbish seems to blow in under railings ans so isn't actually generated by the school.
Remediation Ideas
1. Write letter to council and send copies to politicians regarding a bin outside the school.
2. Suggest having a bin in the yard.
3. We need better compost containers in the yards.
4. A rota for everyone in the school to be involved picking up litter.
5. Fundraise for a bench or table for the yard so popcorn eaters can sit in one place.
This piechart demonstrates where the litter problems were.
