We all met at the Iveagh Grounds in Crumlin yesterday for our annual Sports Day. It was a cold and windy morning but we braved the elements and had an energetic and fun filled day. Have a look below to see some of the competitors in action.
First we ran the sprints, with
the children grouped according to age.
Here are some pictures of the Junior sprints

Next we had the sack race. Unfortunately we did not have Ms. Cronin on hand for her usual demonstration of this event! However, the Juniors managed, especially with the help of some of the older pupils who couldn't resist giving them a hand!

The egg and spoon came next, with some competitors bending the rules....and their spoons, to gain an advantage! All forms of 'rule bending' were outlawed (including over sized spoons) and the race was a success. See if you can spot Ms Butler stopping one of the rule breakers in her tracks!!

Some find the jersey race race a breeze, while some just get in a muddle!! From third class up the jerseys are put inside out and back to front, to make it more interesting! Participants must ensure the jersey is on the right way round, but above all, make sure that the jersey is on BEFORE they run!!!

After refuelling, we were ready for the three legged race, the relay race and the long race.
The three legged race always results in some tumbles......

The long race is an eagerly awaited event. 1st and 2nd run half the track, 3rd and 4th run three quarters of it and 5th and 6th go the whole hog! Separate races were run according to class and gender. Some people made it look really easy! Well done to all, as everyone who started the race finished it, which is a great achievement in itself.

Some people left with their parents and the rest of us walked back to school, tired but in high spirits. We had enough energy for a song or two on the way, and then collapsed as soon as we got in.....teachers included!!! Well done to everyone who took part.
