Drum Nature

On the 14th December our school had a drumming lesson we used drums made in Africa of wood, rope and animal skin on the base. Our teacher Neil was very nice, he owned about 30 drums each 200 - 275 euro. Everyone each had their own drum. Some drums you played between knees and hit with your hands and others you had two drum sticks and hit them with those. I used the biggest drum.

I thought the drum workshop was very good and I would recommend it to other schools. The teacher was very nice. The drums looked very different from other ones. We did loads of different rhythms. My favourite bit was when we got to make up our own rhythms. There was a lot of noise. We had great fun and I wish we could do it again.

I had a fantastic time and I'd say a lot of others did too. I hope we get to do it again!

Neil taught us cool things and was very nice.

I liked playing the drums because they made lots of crashing noises and it was fun. It was really interesting because he talked about all the different types of skin. The man's name was Neil. He said he bought them in North Africa and I think he said the drums were about €300 each.

On Thursday 14th December a man called Neil came to our school for a drum workshop. We all got to play African drums. He taught us how to make different sounds. For example, if you hit the middle of the drum with your palm it makes a lower sound. We played rhythms and pulses. We found out that the drums were made of wood and goatskin. There was so much noise that Neil had to wear ear plugs!!! It was loads of fun. We all had a great laugh and learned about drums.

We went to play the drums with Neil and it was really fun. We banged hard and soft on the drums and some people got to go up and be the drum conductor. When we tapped the end of the drum it made a soft sound and when we tapped the middle it made what's called a base sound.

The drums were great fun. Neil was very nice and kind. I had the Dum Dum Ba (I think!) We did loads of cool stuff. We did this thing where Neil would play something on the woodblock and we would play it on the drums. We also made up our own tunes and we would all play them at the same time, then we got to play them by ourselves. It was EXCELLENT! I would give it 100 out of 100!

The bang in music!

The 14th December was one of the loudest days in the school. The man who owned the drums was Neil. He came home from Africa with a van full of goat skin drums. The echo of the drums was amazing. It sounded like a hailstone the size of a tree falling on the school. The only word I have for it is brilliant!!!
